Here's what I've been doing. Digging up pictures of my old community garden to gather inspiration for future endeavors, okay and maybe to reminisce a little bit.

This is a picture of the first year of the Hill Street Garden. During the summer of 2009 we decided on this circle layout plan. I really like the circle for.... well holistic reasons. Theres something metaphysical and aware of energy when your garden resembles the shape of the planets and stars that it derives its energy and nutrients from. Maybe circles as shapes just have a more natural feel, (possibly why microsoft decided on the squircle for their zune to combat the ipod circle control scheme.)
In the summer of 2010 we expanded the garden, lost the circle scheme and aimed for small plots that were only about 4 feet across at most. This design takes into account the ease of harvesting. When plots are too big to lean into we often trample valuable produce we want, or end up compacting soil where we really don't need to be compacting it.
I'll try and dig up those photos of the later year and get a photo posting together.
My next post will be pictures of the Howard street garden after cleaning out some brush. They will be used in the planning process for this summers garden.
